Oman- Rajasthani folk dance troupe to perform at Salalah Tourism Festival


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- A ten-member cultural troupe from the Indian state of Rajasthan, will perform at the closing ceremony of the Salalah Tourism Festival on August 27.

The troupe, led by popular Rajasthani dancer Kamali, will also perform in Muscat, at the Indian embassy premises in Al Khuwayr on August 23 at 7pm, stated a press release.

Rajasthan has many forms of folk dances which are attractive and enjoyable by any age group. Rajasthani folk dances are popular all around the globe.

In Oman, the troupe will perform a variety of folk dances including Kalbeliya, Ghoomar, Bhavai, Gramin, Fire, Chari and Banjara dances, many of which have gained international recognition.

The visit of the troupe has been sponsored by the Indian Council of Cultural Research (ICCR), Government of India, as a part of celebration of 70 years of India's independence.

Celebrating India @70, the Indian embassy has planned a series of events in Oman, from August 2017 to August 2018. Oman has already witnessed Kathak performances in Muscat, Sohar, Nizwa and Salalah.

In the coming months, the embassy will organise more classical dance performances, musical performances, and a theatre festival. Also in the line-up are a quiz competition, a painting exhibition, a painting competition, an essay competition and a seminar. Indian Social Club as well as Indian schools in Oman are also organising various events in celebration of India@70.
