Oman- ROP's eServices most popular among users

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- ROP's electronic services are the most used and popular ones in the sultanate, according to a survey done by the Information Technology Authority (ITA) in April. It was done to assess people's awareness and the usage of government electronic services and the reasons behind not using them.

Information was gathered from 1,779 Omanis and expatriates in Muscat through field survey (67 per cent) and online through ITA's social media channels (33 per cent).

According to the survey results, 95 per cent of the respondents know about at least one government electronic service, which indicates that awareness exists but there is a need to specify and target the right segment in the promotional and marketing campaigns.

The eServices of government entities addressed in the survey are ROP, Ministry of Health (MoH), Muscat Municipality, Ministry of Manpower (MoM) and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI).

The survey found that 93 per cent of the respondents are aware of ROP's eServices while 86 per cent of them use the services. However, 76 per cent are only aware of MoM's eServices and 59 per cent are using them. 'This indicates that the ministry needs to have more awareness campaigns to encourage more people to shift in using online services,' ITA said.

With regard to MoCI's eServices, 58 per cent are aware but only 42 per cent are using them.

Muscat Municipality's eServices are the lowest in terms of usage as only 32 per cent of respondents use them while 54 per cent are aware of them. MoH's eServices are familiar with 51 per cent of the respondents but only 42 per cent use them.

Since the survey's aim was to assess the individual's usage of eServices, it is very important to know the percentage of people who do not use the services and the reasons behind that.

According to the results, only eight per cent of the respondents did not use the eServices of the government entities addressed in the survey.

When asked about the reasons for not using the government eServices, the maximum respondents (34 per cent) complained of low network speed, while nine per cent said about lack of experience in handling technology.

Survey respondents also spoke on the lack of integration between all the entities, which resulted in having incomplete end-to-end eServices.

This is in addition to the low network speed despite high telecommunication offer rates in the sultanate.

Of 1,779 respondents who took part in the survey, 90 per cent were Omanis and the remaining were expatriates.

Of the total respondents, 82 per cent were males and the remaining were females.

Comparing the age group of the respondents, about 80 per cent of them were between 18 and 40 years.
