(MENAFN- Afghanistan Times) AT-KABUL: Former President, Hamid Karzai sent a congratulating message to the people of Afghanistan on the occasion of the 98th Independence Day.
I would like to congratulate the 98th Independence Day of our country to all the brave people of Afghanistan. The Afghans have not spared giving sacrifices along the history for maintaining their national sovereignty and territorial integrity. Freedom, independence loving and patriotism are the eternal secrets of our homeland and I am sure this will continue in the future.
Our freedom and independence will be lasting until our today and tomorrow are in the hands of such independence-loving people.
Our country is regretfully in a critical situation. Continuation of the war, interference of the foreign powers, insolence and not respecting the Afghans' lives are serious threats against the freedom, national unity and independence of Afghanistan.
Problems have caused the unity and patriotism of the Afghans in the course of history. Today, we need to stand united against the threats and raise our voices.
I would like to once again call on the Taliban to give up fighting, join the peace process and stand against the invasion shoulder to should with their people.
The martyrs of independence are remembered!
