13 Taliban eliminated, 5 wounded in Kunduz clash


(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Thirteen Taliban insurgents have been killed during a clash in the Khanabad district of northern Kunduz province, an intelligence official said on Sunday.

A reliable source in the National Directorate of Security told Pajhwok Afghan News the firefight between the Taliban and the security forces erupted in the Janat Bagh area of the district on Saturday.

He said 13 militants were killed and five others wounded in the battle. Notorious Pakistani commanders Mullah Jan and Mullah Alaudin, Mullah Almas were among the dead.

€œJanat Bagh area is very important to us, because a threat to Khanabad district always emanated from here. But now we have occupied it,€ the NDS official added.

Abdul Hai, a resident of the area, said a fierce clash took place in Khanabad district on Saturday when both sides suffered heavy casualties.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid confirmed the clash, claiming eight security personnel and two fighters were killed. One tank was blown up.
