Canada says number of illegal immigrants from US increased in July


(MENAFN) According to reports released by the Canadian government, number of asylum seekers who crossed the US borders to Canada more than tripled last month, amid worries about the US administration's immigration policies.

Illegal migrants who crossed borders are around 3,100 people in July to file for refugees claims and were arrested, up from 884 in June.

In details, 96% of them went to Quebec, where most of asylum seekers go, primarily Haitians.

Transport Minister Marc Garneau said: "It's not a crisis. It's a situation that is extraordinary. But it's well-managed."
