Jordan- FM: No security without Palestinian security

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Cairo, Aug. 19 (Petra) -- Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs, Ayman Safadi said "there is no security without the security of Palestine".

At the end of the second round of a tripartite consultation on the Middle East peace process that brought together the foreign ministers of Jordan, Egypt and Palestine, on Saturday, Safadi added that the absence of a political horizon is a serious situation and there would be no one, without working on a negotiated framework, leading to achieve dignity to Palestinians, so that the region would enjoy the desired peace." "If the Palestinian people are deprived of peace, the region can not enjoy it, and tampering with Jerusalem touches the feelings of Arabs and Muslims, and that should make Israel stop all its actions there, and work together to launch serious negotiations that will serve the interests of the Palestinian people," the minister added.

He pointed out that these consultations came in implementation of the directives of the leaders through their meeting on the sidelines of the Amman summit after meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump and his desire to reach a peace process, indicating that the importance of the meeting is that it comes before the arrival of the US delegation to the region to discuss this requirement.

Safadi said messages referred to in the Cairo statement today stress that peace is an Arab strategic option as it achieves the security and stability of the region as a whole, so that it must always be accepted by the peoples and thus meet the demands and rights of the Palestinian people.

"We are not pushing for a new solution, because the basis for the solution is the establishment of a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital," he said, adding that any attempt to marginalize the Palestinian issue will cause instability in the region.

He underlined that "until peace is achieved, negotiations are held and until the two states are established, it is necessary to make Israel stop its efforts to undermine the establishment of a viable Palestinian state and stop all its steps that threaten the Al-Haram Al-Sharif, Provoking feelings and threatening to destroy the entire region." Safadi commended the United States' efforts, emphasizing the importance of exerting all efforts to achieve the two-state solution, noting that the ball is now on the Israeli court and it should accept the Arab peace initiative.

He reiterated Jordan's supportive stance to efforts aimed at resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on the basis of guaranteeing the Palestinian right, pointing out that the Palestinian issue is the central issue and that security and peace in the region requires granting the Palestinian people justice and the establishment of an independent state on the basis of the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
