Eight people killed in knife attack in Siberia

(MENAFN) According to Tass, Russian news agency, eight people were killed in a knife attack in the Siberian city of Surgut, and spokesman for the local office of the Russian law enforcement committee said a man was running along the main streets stabbing people.

Before the suspect was shot dead by police, he carried out attacks on passersby, causing stab wounds to eight while moving along central streets of the city.

Media reported that four of the wounded are in serious conditions, and a spokeswoman said that the committee is investigating attempted murder.

However, the Islamic State"s Aamaq news agency later claimed the attacker was one of their soldiers, while there was no immediate Russian comment and it was unclear if the IS claim was opportunistic.
