(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- A 16 year old girl from the southern Indian city of Hyderabad has been fraudulently married to a 65 year old Omani national and brought to Muscat, as per Indian media reports. He reportedly paid the girl's relatives R5lakh (approx RO3,002).
The minor's mother, Syeeda Unnisa has lodged a complaint with the police. She said that her relatives had organised the wedding at a hotel. She said, 'The man says he had bought my daughter for R5lakh.
He said this was paid to my relatives. He said only if this amount is paid, he would send my daughter back to India.' Soon after the incident was reported, India's Union Minister, Maneka Gandhi on Thursday reached out to the External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to rescue the minor.
