Oman- Sultanate announces educational scholarships for Indian students


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The sultanate has announced educational scholarships for Indian nationals under the Omani Programme for Cultural and Scientific Cooperation for the academic year 2017-18.

The scholarships are open for students below 25 years. The completed application form along with a cover letter should be sent to the Indian Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) on or before August 24. The duration of study will be five years including a preparatory programme and students will not be permitted to change the educational institute or programme for which they have been accepted.

To be eligible the candidate should be below the age of 25 years as on October 1, 2017 and must either hold a General Secondary, Higher Education Diploma or plus 2 certificate.

Such candidates who have already been abroad for studies can apply subject to the condition that they have been in India for at least two consecutive years at the time of applying.

The study programmes covered under this scholarship are:

  • Engineering specialisations
  • Administrative and IT specialisations
  • Language and Art specialisations
  • The scholarship does not cover medical or paramedical specialisations.
  • Students selected for the scholarship will be given the following allowances:
  • RO200 which is equivalent to US$518 for pocket money, accommodation and transportation
  • Free treatment in government hospitals except dental and treatment charges related to road accidents for those with uninsured vehicles or driving without driving licence
  • Two-way air tickets once a year
  • Students living in Oman and studying in Omani institutes under the Omani Programme for Cultural and Scientific Cooperation will get the same benefits except monthly allowance and air ticket
The students have to abide by the rules and regulations of the Ministry of Higher Education in Oman and the relevant educational institution.

Among the educational institutions where students can enter include the Sultan Qaboos University, Sharia'a Education Institute, colleges of Applied Sciences, higher colleges of technology and College of Banking and Financial Studies.
