The Indonesian mission in Doha aims to increase the number of Indonesian professionals working in Qatar, targeting to bring around 1,000 professionals annually.

'Our goal is to bring around 1,000 skilled workers yearly and so far we have already hit above our target this year, Indonesian Ambassador Muhammad Basri Sidehabi said while speaking to local media on the sidelines of Indonesia's 72nd Independence Day celebration yesterday.

An estimated 40,000 Indonesians are currently working in Qatar, of which only 15 percent are professionals who are mostly employed in the oil and gas and hospitality sectors, said Ambassador Sidehabi, adding hospitality is among the sectors where most Indonesian professionals are targetting employment.

The ambassador said they are looking forward to the visit of an Indonesian business delegation to Qatar sometime in November this year, further strengthening the existing ties between the two countries in the field of trade and investment.
The delegation, to be headed by the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, will comprise representatives of key business sectors such as investment, food and construction, he said.

The Indonesian trade delegation will be having a business meeting with their Qatari counterparts as well as attend a gala dinner.

On his thoughts with regard to yesterday's celebration of Indonesia's 72nd Independence Day, he said, 'This ceremony marks a unique and significant moment because we have to maintain unity amid the diversity of our customs and traditions as we have around 350 ethno-linguistic groups.

August 17, 1945 marked the proclamation of Indonesia's independence from the Netherlands. To celebrate this auspicious occasion, around 200 Indonesian expatriates in Qatar gathered at their embassy yesterday afternoon.

The celebration included a flag saluting ceremony followed by Ambassador Sidehabi's message to the community. A bazaar which had authentic Indonesian food as among its main features was also held as part of yesterday's activities.

The Indonesian Community in Qatar (Permiqa) spearheaded the activities with the participation of various organizations. There are 51 Indonesian organizations in Qatar.
