(MENAFN- Gulf Times) More than 40 images of Qatar's stunning architecture and scenery, and rich cultural heritage are showcased in a first-of-its-kind exhibition, which opened at the Katara the Cultural Village. Titled ‘Qatar Through Filipinos' Lenses,' it portrays the diverse art scene in the country and provides 'a glimpse into its culture and tradition pictured by 32 Filipino lensmen who live and call Qatar their home.
The event was attended by senior officials of Katara and the Philippine embassy in Doha, as well as diplomats from other Asean embassies, guests and photography enthusiasts.
Speaking on behalf of Katara general manager Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti yesterday, human resources manager Saif al-Dosari said the event chronicles Qatar's fascinating and unique features 'through the lenses of the Filipino community in Doha.
He stressed that hosting such exhibition forms part of Katara's keenness to build bridges, which connects people from all walks of life, providing them with an array of exhibitions and events that showcase various cultures.
The Filipino lensmen, who are members of different photography groups, spent their time capturing every facet of a vibrant city, as well as the country's beautiful sceneries and popular destinations, at different times of the day and across the seasons.
Some of the photos include Qatar's famous landmarks such as Souq Waqif, Doha Corniche and a number of art installations, The Pearl-Qatar, Fuwarit beach, Museum of Islamic Art, The Torch, Abdul Wahhab Mosque, Al Zubara Fort (Qatar's first Unesco heritage site) and Katara.
A number of images also captured the daily life of residents, their pastimes, and how they make a living while others provide a peek of Qatar's past. 'We are fully aware that culture, with all its branches, comes in as a common language that transcends bonds with different countries, and increases the rapprochement between all nations regardless of their history or their geographical features, al-Dosari pointed out.
Philippine ambassador Alan Timbayan cited his compatriots' passion, ingenuity, and dedication in photography and in capturing Qatar's beauty and many attractions.
'It is through their eyes that we see Qatar's architecture, people, and natural wonders. They present a unique perspective of the blending of the old and new, progress and history, which define Qatar's development as a country and as a society, the envoy said. He also thanked Katara for promoting cultural activities and providing opportunities for artistic expression by offering local and foreign artists a platform to showcase their works to the public.
