India's pollution makes the government want to go all-electric
Deteriorating air quality
In 2014, WHO had revealed a list of 20 cities with most air pollution and 13 were in India.
An investigation by Greenpeace revealed that every year, almost 1 million people die in India from breathing in toxic fumes.
This was only a little less than smoking-related deaths.
It also revealed that 3% of India's GDP was lost because of poisonous smog.
India's National Electric Mobility Mission Plan 2020

In order to deal with the growing menace of pollution in India, the government of India devised National Electric Mobility Mission Plan to put 6-7 million electric vehicles on road by 2020.
The plan of going electrical would not only save fuel, thereby reducing the country's fuel dependency on imports, but would also help in combating pollution.
Government introduces FAME for India's automobile overhaul

In 2015, the government rolled out FAME India (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric vehicles) to ensure India goes electric at the soonest.
The move was meant to provide an incentive to the upcoming hybrid and electric vehicle industry and propel 'Make in India' programme.
The scheme has been formed as part of the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan 2020.
Piyush Goyal wants India to have all-electric cars by 2030

Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal said that by 2030 all cars being sold in India should be electric.
He said that while hybrid cars have cut down the fuel consumption, electric vehicles are the future.
Addressing the Confederation of Indian Industry Annual Session, he said: "We are going to introduce electric vehicles in a very big way".

Govt. plans to buy 10,000 electric cars for NCR mantris

Looks like Delhi's bureaucracy has finally decided to go green.
The Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) has decided to purchase 10,000 battery-powered cars for the Union ministers and senior bureaucrats.
These battery-powered sedans will run 120-150 km on a single charge in the 1st phase in the coming six months.
About 300-400 EVs will start running in the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) zone.
