India win 37 medals at World Dwarf Games

Indian contingent won 37 medals at the recently concluded World Dwarf Games in Canada.

The 21-member team won 15 gold, 10 silver and 12 bronze medals in various events like badminton, swimming, archery, and athletics at the seventh edition of the games.

United States finished on top of the medals table with 293 medals, including 116 gold.

The Indian consulate in Toronto felicitated the Indian team on the Independence Day. The games were held at University of Guelph in Ontario from from 4th August to 12th August.


Indian athletes thrilled after the tournament

Joby Matthew, winner of six medals, said that the team had a wonderful experience during the tournament.

Another multiple medals winner Arunachalam Nalini said, "This is our Olympics, the little peoples' Olympics."

The Indian team manager and coach Shivananda Gunjal is really happy with team's performance and said, "This year was fantastic. They have done an excellent job."


Indian team faces problems in Toronto

On their way back to India, the contingent arrived in Toronto, but were unable to afford accommodation in the city and they sent out a plea of assistance on Facebook.

A Toronto based social non-profit, Sringeri Vidya Bharati Foundation (Canada) accommodated the team at their community centre and also arranged the visit to the Indian consulate on 15th August.
