Turkey, Iran top military chiefs meet in Ankara

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ANKARA, Aug 15 (KUNA) -- Turkish Army Chief of Staff Commander Gen Hulusi Akar met on Tuesday his Iranian counterpart Maj Gen Mohammad Hossein Bagheri in the capital Ankara.

Local media outlets said the two sides discussed issues such as counter-terrorism, regional developments, defense ties and border security.

Bagheri's three-day visit is considered the first for an Iranian high-ranking military official to Turkey since 1979.

The visit also comes a week after Turkey began building a cement wall barrier on the 534 km shared borders with Iran, to stop illegal immigrants. (end) rs.mb
