ISWK celebrates 71st Independence Day of India


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- Indian School Wadi Kabir (ISWK) celebrated the 71st Independence Day of India with much aplomb and show in the Primary School ground. August 15, 1947is a day dedicated to the fond remembrance of all those sons and daughters, great or small, whose sacrifice hasborne fruit when their motherland attained freedom from foreign rule. It is a tribute to the freedom fighters who fulfilled a long cherished dream of all nation lovers, after much suffering.

The chief guest for the august occasion was H E Indra Mani Pandey, India's Ambassador to Oman. Also present on the occasion was Anil Khimji, a patron of the school; Kiran Asher and members of the Educational Cell; Harshendu Shah, president of the ISWK (I), Rajendra Ved, executive director of ISWK and ISWK i; Alkesh Joshi, honourary president of the ISWK Management Committee along with its esteemed members; members of Board of Directors of Indian Schools in Oman; members of the other Indian School Management Committees and principals of other Indian schools in the capital area. The chief guest along with other dignitaries was welcomed by the head girl, Raksha Patil, and the head boy Aayush Abraham. The tiny tots of kindergarten presented a bouquet of flowers to the distinguished guest.

Tricolour balloons were released into the air to mark the beginning of the celebrations. The stage was done up in the manner of the ramparts of the Red Fort. After inspecting the Marching Contingents of the participating schools--IS Darsait, IS Muscat, IS Ghubra, IS Seeb, IS Ma'abela and the host school ISWK, the chief guest took the salute. The ISWK Head Council led the march followed by contingents of Primary students in the Army, Navy and Air Force uniform. The contingents marched to the accompaniment of the ISWK school band.

The star attraction of the programme was a mini-tableau of the states of Kashmir and Rajasthan, and a model of INS 'Vikrant' with an impressive display of the commendable achievements of India in the fields of Science and Technology and Space research. In his speech, the chief guest highlighted the role of freedom fighters in gaining independence for India. He added that it was now for all citizens of India to commit themselves to building a glorious nation meeting the challenges ahead such as a clean India, education for the poor and upliftment of the underprivileged. He also stressed on the need of integrating technology in all aspects of life.

Showcasing the unity in diversity, unique to India, the dance troupes of ISWK performed well-known folk dances selected from the east to west and north to south of India. A dance-drama 'Reliving the Freedom Struggle' was performed by the Primary school students enacting the roles of the iconic freedom fighters of India. The Grand Dance Finale gave a befitting tribute to the motherland. A patriotic song titled 'Ik Khwab Tha' 'I had a dream' by the school Hindustani choir roused patriotic feelings among the audience. The grand celebrations ended with the singing of the National Anthem of India.
