From the minute Pehredaar Piya Ki's trailer came out, the show faced flak for showing the contentious relationship between a 9 year old boy set to marry an 18 year old girl.

Pehredaar or otherwise, the viewers took objection to the theme of the show.

To make things worst, the first episode showed the child taking creepy pictures of the older girl.

Actor Karan Wahi, too slammed the show on Facebook and asked the producers and the channel to stop trying to sell "stupidity in the name of content" and that the Hindi television industry could do "better than this".

While India may have been outraged by the show, its cast and producers failed to see why.

Defending her show, the lead actress Tejaswi Prakash said that the same happens in Game of Thrones and people love it.

The producer too said that there was no objectionable content and the relationship between the child and the female character were shown as 'pure'.

GoT fans cringed when the show got compared to Pehredaar Piya Ki. While Loras Tyrell and Cersei Lannister's engagement did get announced in Season 4 but the wedding never took place and Cersei was definitely not Pehredaar Loras Ki, in fact, exactly the opposite.

The makers of Pehredaar Piya Ki, landed in a storm of outrage after the latest episode showed the kid adorning Diya with 'Sindoor'.

There is more, the couple is then sent to their room and the family even wants to send them for a honeymoon.

Soon after a petition was floated to ban the show which people felt was promoting child marriage.

What may seem like a fatal blow to Pehredaar Piya Ki- show that outraged India, now I&B minister Smriti Irani has expressed her concerns to Broadcasting Content Complaints Council to ban the show.

Irani's action came after a petition was filed on Change.org by petitioner Mansi Jain.

The petition garnered as many as 1.25 lakh signatures; another NGO has also called for a ban.
