Ridden by L Dettori, Al Shaqab's Al Wukair clinched Group 1 victory after excelling at the The Prix du Haras de Fresnay-le-Buffard Jacques Le Marois, at Deauville, France yesterday.
The Prix du Haras de Fresnay-le-Buffard Jacques Le Marois, gave place to a beautiful battle which gave advantage to Al Wukair.
The 3yo colt who carried the Al Shaqab Racing silks managed to place a last acceleration to finish a short head in front of Inns of Court right on the finish line. Thunder Snow, who led the race, finished third.
Al Wukair won his first Group 1, after finishing excellent third in the 2,000 Guineas in Newmarket.
He offered a first success in the race to Al Shaqab Racing, after Olympic Glory's second place in 2013, behind the champion Moonlight Cloud.
André Fabre, his trainer, said: 'I am happy that Al Wukair won. But I would have also been please if one of my other horses had won! Al Wukair could go to Ascot over 2,000 metres. I would like to say a word about Grégory Benoist.
'He had ridden wonderfully the horse by the past and I wish a quick recovery, he added.
Rupert Pritchard-Gordon, racing manager for Al Shaqab Racing in France, explained: 'It's awesome. After his very good race in the Guineas, it is very nice to see him do this. The Prix Messidor was a return race and Frankie Dettori had respected the colt.
'For the past two weeks, his trainer was pleased with Al Wukair. The softer ground was not a problem. We could step him up in trip; the Champion Stakes have been mentioned. It will be interesting to see him over longer because he shows he will be better, he added.
