Oman- Man impersonating as police robs expatriate

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- A man impersonating as a police officer robbed an expatriate at his apartment in Ruwi last week.

Describing the impersonator, the owner of the building said, 'He was wearing a kurta pyjama and he could speak in Arabic, English and Hindi. The man knocked at my tenant's flat and said that he is a cop. My tenant was too scared to ask for his ID. The man said that he wanted to search the house and forced his way in.

'He made a hurried search, took RO50 and ran away. My tenant had no time to even react.'

A complaint has been lodged with the Ruwi Police Station and ROP is looking into the case.

Another tenant of the same building where this incident happened said, 'This man first came to my house and said he was looking for some Omani. My dad who opened the door told him he didn't know any Omani and so he left hurriedly. The man was around 20-25 years old. He looked quite restless and talked hastily.

'He seemed suspicious so we peeped through the window to find out what he was up to. He went out of the building premises first and then reentered. We got to know of the incident when we heard someone crying for help. We also got to know that he had approached other houses in our building.'

The ROP has asked people particularly expatriates not to show their Resident Cards or allow anyone posing as a policeman in civvies enter their homes unless they are sure of the person's identity. People must ask for the person's ID card, the ROP said.
