Iraq eyes closer ties with Bahrain


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BAGHDAD, Aug 13 (KUNA) -- Iraqi President Fuad Masoum said on Sunday his country is willing to promote and prop up its relations with Bahrain in all cooperative domains.

The Iraqi president made the remark while meeting visiting Bahraini Foreign Minister Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmad, saying Baghdad is eager to have closer relations with Bahrain and other Gulf and world countries on the basis of mutual interest, the Iraqi Presidency said in a statement.

The Bahraini foreign minister applauded the Iraqis' resolve to eliminate the so-called Islamic State (IS), congratulating the Iraqi government on the recent liberation of the Iraqi city of Mosul.

He reiterated his country's interest in consolidating its cooperation with Iraq, hoping that his visit would create fresh horizons for better cooperation and coordination.

The Bahraini foreign minister arrived in Baghdad earlier in the day on an official visit to Iraq. (end) ahh.mt -- --
