GCC General Secretary meets UN official


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) RIYADH, Aug 9 (KUNA) -- Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Abdul-Latif bin Rashid Al-Zayani received on Wednesday UN Special Envoy to Yemen Ismail Ould Sheikh Ahmed.

They discussed latest political, humanitarian and security issues in Yemen as well as efforts to "rebuild the political life" in Yemen within the framework of the Gulf Initiative, the Comprehensive National Dialogue Conference and UN resolution 2216, said a GCC statement.

Al-Zayani affirmed GCC support to all efforts made by UN special envoy to continue Yemeni peace talks.

He called on international organizations to increase their efforts to stop spreading of cholera in Yemen.

On his side, the UN Envoy to Yemen briefed Al-Zayani on his initiative for Hodeida port, alluding to plans to secure delivery of humanitarian supplies at the harbor.

Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Special Envoy to Yemen Madkhal Al-Hathali and Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs and Negotiations Dr. Abdullaziz Al-Owaishiq attended the meeting.(end) mdm.nhq -- --
