New PICPA Doha council takes over


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA), Doha Chapter held its Annual General Assembly and Induction Ceremony for Fiscal Year 2017-2018 recently.
Hundreds of PICPA members attended. The programme was opened by Sharon dela Cruz, PICPA's new VP for External Affairs.
As part of PICPA's commitment to assist its members in their professional and personal skills development, first segment of the event was a technical session. The topic was 'Reflective Leadership: A new way of leading and dealing with people. This seminar was facilitated by Dr Alexander S Acosta, PhD, School Principal of Philippine School Doha. PICPA's Outgoing President Emma Vitor presented the Past President's Report. She was then awarded a token of appreciation for her services. Certificates and plaques were given to the entire outgoing council officers by PICPA's past presidents, Richard Ali, Derrick Tusi and Jennifer Pintor. Vitor also surprised her team by awarding them and others who contributed to a prolific 2016-17 for PICPA with what she termed a 'Presidential Award.
Emma Vitor then officially handed over the leadership to the President Elect, Jeffrey Quinto.
Robert Lepon, one of PICPA advisers, presented the new set of Council Officers for fiscal year 2017-2018. The Council Officers took their Oath of Office before the Philippine Labor Attaché to Qatar, David Des T Dicang.
In the later part of the programme, Quinto outlined the plans and priorities of the current council for the members, associates and the organisation that is to assist accounting professionals in strengthening their proficiencies to the highest standards. He stressed PICPA's current campaign for professional advancement and presented the whole-year's training plan that will support their members in earning the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements of the Philippine Regulations Commission (PRC). Updates and Open Forum about CPD was also discussed in the event. Quinto also facilitated the Induction of the Members and Associates where they took their Pledge and Oath of Membership.
And for the entertaining part of the programme, an inspirational film was shown for the first time to the audience. The movie Pangarap (Dreams in the Desert) is an original film produced by PICPA Doha and directed the Jordan dela Cruz. The movie was inspired by the true-to-life story of Warren Molas about his long, challenging, yet eventually winning journey of becoming a CPA. The film was written by Seige Ledesma and stars previous council officers and members.
The winners of the Tagline Making Contest and #OldiesButGoodies Throwback Photo Contest were announced during the event. Emma Vitor won the Tagline Making Contest for her entry 'Proactively Innovating for Continued Professional Advancement: Celebrating a Decade of Excellence. As the winning entry, this will be the tagline of PICPA Doha for the fiscal year 2017-2018. Kentry Ayson won the #OldiesButGoodies Throwback Photo Contest for his entry with the caption 'Every moment and every event of every man's life on earth plants something in his soul, garnering more than 4,600 Facebook likes.
