DCMF denounces Israel's decision to ban Al Jazeera

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Doha Centre for Media Freedom (DCMF) has condemned the decision by the Israeli authorities to shut down Al Jazeera News Network's offices in Jerusalem and revoke its journalists' press credentials.
In a statement yesterday, DCMF said it believes that such a 'practice is part of a systematic attack on press freedom and freedom of expression, and is intended to avoid coverage of the continuous violations committed against Palestinians by Israeli forces in the occupied territories.
'By taking this decision, Israel is lining up with the Gulf states who have been imposing a siege on Qatar for more than two months, namely Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain as well as Egypt, who have also targeted Al Jazeera, shut down its offices and banned its journalists from working in their countries, the statement added.
DCMF has called on all organisations concerned to resist this decision, which targets not only Al Jazeera, but all free media outlets that 'believe in the right of freedom of expression, right to convey the truth, and free access to information.
The centre has also urged all parties concerned to reject Israeli practices that hinder the freedom of journalists to cover news developments in the Palestinian territories.
Further, DCMF stressed that it supports all legal actions planned to be taken by Al Jazeera Network in order to confront, counter and prevent the implementation of this decision.
