Oman- First Balochi feature film shot in sultanate to release soon

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The first modern-day full-length Balochi feature film will be released in Oman soon. Shot exclusively in the sultanate, Sangat is the story of four friends battling social problems.

Speaking to Muscat Daily , Sami Sarang, director and lead actor, said, 'We have got the permission from the Omani government and will release the movie soon. It is a story of four friends with lots of drama, music and action. Our aim is to show a different side of Balochistan [in Pakistan]. We hope to lay down the foundation for a strong film industry, so that young Balochi talents have a platform to showcase their skills.'

He added that through the movie his team aims to promote the Omani film industry and Balochi language.

The movie has been shot with full-frame Digital single-lens reflex camera (DSLRs) and edited with Adobe Premiere Pro CC. It took almost a year from conceptualising the script to shooting and then for the post-production work.

Showcasing some of the best natural and historical sites in Oman, the film is slated for a release in Pakistan and Gulf states in the next few weeks. 'We have captured some of the most historical and beautiful places in Oman. The main challenge was to work with artistes who have no film experience. We also didn't have a big team; we had just three technicians for shooting and producing the film.'

He thanked his friend Said al Balushi, producer Waheed al Balushi and the line producer Shahid Hameed for all their support. Speaking to Dawn newspaper in Pakistan Waheed had said, 'Though the Pakistani film industry is undergoing a revival of sorts, the Balochi film industry is yet to develop as there is a dearth of filmmakers. As a result, cinema theatres in Balochistan are being converted into malls. In the last few years, four out of the seven cinemas in Quetta [the provincial capital of Balochistan] have been closed down.'
