Six weeks after its opening, the Summer Entertainment City, a major offering at this year's Qatar Summer Festival (QSF), has been attracting many visitors, and organisers are satisfied with the turnout.
'We have been pleased with the crowd turnout this year, despite market headwinds. The attendance and popularity of QSF Summer Entertainment City has been a testimonial to the resilience Qatar residents have shown in the face of challenge, Ghanim Al Mohannadi, Vice- Chairman QSports, organiser of Summer Entertainment City, told The Peninsula yesterday.
Since it launched on June 25, thousands of people have already visited the City, the first four days of which saw around 19,000 visitors, organisers told this paper earlier.
'The weekends particularly draw larger crowds, with the biggest draws gravitating around our special performances by international acts, based on the theme of the week, Al Mohannadi stressed.
The varied features and offerings of the City coupled with an accessible venue which is the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC) have played a major role in the success of the City, which this year witnesses its longest edition yet.
'Our unique offerings in activities, entertainment, dining and retail have all contributed to our success, Al Mohannadi pointed out.
In its fourth edition, the City has everything to offer for people of all ages, with its more than 85 games and rides, 40 dining options and 12 pop-up shops, in addition to live entertainment. To ensure frequent visitors will always have something to look forward to, new features are being added regularly to the already rich lineup of offerings such as new games and weekly acts of international caliber.
'Apart from diversifying the entertainment offerings at Summer Entertainment City, live performances give visitors a chance to view international acts, which have never been seen in Qatar. We've recently had an act by noted illusionist Hafid Good, a performance by popular Georgian Dance group ‘Kazbegi', and world renowned acrobatic slam dunk Basketball team ‘Dunking Devils', said Al Mohannadi.
With four more weeks to go before its conclusion, the City has more surprises in store for visitors as organisers bring in a diverse array of offerings from live entertainment to games and rides.
'Plans are in place to bring in more rides and attraction in the coming weeks, so as to diversify the entertainment at the venue. Furthermore, there shall be different live performances in the coming weeks, particularly around Eid Al Adha. This week, we celebrate Africa week, and are bringing back the Dunking Devils (female team), Al Mohannadi revealed.
Like the well-applauded act of Magnificent Kids Acrobat Dance Group from Ukraine and the impressive traditional Georgian dance performance of Kazbegi troupe from Georgia, the Human African Acrobat Show this coming Friday and Saturday is set to mesmerise crowds with breathtaking acrobatics that require concentration and balance.
