Jordan reiterates support to legitimacy in Yemen


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) AMMAN, Aug 5 (KUNA) -- Jordan has reaffirmed commitment to support legitimacy in Yemen, and keenness on restoring security and stability in the country for maintaining its sovereignty and unity.

Receiving Yemen's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Abdul-Malik Al Mekhlafi on Sunday, the Jordanian Prime Minister Hani Al-Mulki stressed the Kingdom's backing to Yemen on the diplomatic, political, economic and social scenes, according to the Jordanian News Agency (Petra).

During the meeting, Al-Mulki pointed to the Kingdom's efforts for Yemen, saying Amman has recently agreed to shift the office of the UN especial envoy for Yemen from New York to the Jordanian capital.

The Premier welcomed convening the Jordanian Yemeni higher committee as soon as possible to enhance bilateral ties in all fields.

In addition, Al-Mulki reviewed the security and humanitarian developments in Yemen.

He pointed to the Kingdom's support to Yemen during Jordan's two-year membership at the UN Security Council.

Separately, Al Mekhlafi and the Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Al Safadi held talks on mechanisms to promote bilateral relations, agreeing to work on convening the higher committee as soon as possible.

According to a press statement, Al Safadi reiterated Jordan's support to constitutional legitimacy in Yemen, represented by President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi. He stressed the prime importance of concluding a political solution to the Yemeni crisis, in line with the GCC Initiative, the UN Security Council relevant resolutions, with 2216 on top, and the outcome of the Yemeni national dialogue.
