UAE- Ajman CP inaugurates 4th Ajman Liwa Date Festival

AJMAN, 2nd August, 2017 (WAM) -- H.H. Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman, inaugurated on Wednesday the 4th edition of the Liwa Dates Festival 2017 in Ajman, under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman.

The three-day event, held at the Emirates Hospitality Centre, consists of over 50 pavilions that display the best varieties of local dates, as well as several types of citrus fruits, honey and other products on display by participating local farmers.

The festival aims to revive local heritage and celebrate national traditions while granting citizens, residents and guests an opportunity to learn about the importance of palm trees, the agricultural sector and the types of agricultural crops in the UAE.

H.H. Sheikh Ammar praised the organisation of the Liwa Dates Festival in Ajman, which shows the understanding of the event's organisers about the importance of palm trees, which are part of the UAE's heritage.

HH stressed that the continuous support of the wise leadership, under the presidency of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, for these events can contribute in a positive way to highlight the UAE's heritage, and teach the nation's youth about its traditions. He also praised the wise leadership for making the festival succeed in Abu Dhabi, Ajman and other emirates.

He also toured the pavilions and other parts of the exhibition, and met with farmers and participants who are displaying their best examples of dates, citrus fruits and honey.

The event aims to encourage farmers to produce the best and finest types of dates and showcase to tourists Emirati culture. In addition the event seeks to strengthen national identity and encourage the preservation of folk heritage of the UAE.

The event returns to Ajman with an interesting fun filled programmes for citizens, residents and visitors alike.

Visitors can enjoy the taste of dates in the culinary corner, take a stroll through traditional market, and enjoy authentic Emirati hospitality in Majilis, whilst witnessing the performance of traditional bands. Activities also include auctions and cooking competitions.

The kids' corner features cultural competitions and art workshops, highlighting the importance of dates and palm trees.
