GIVE ME SHELTER PROJECT

THE STORY:

is an animal rescue, education and advocacy organization located in the NYC Metropolitan Area and Long Island.

We arrange medical care for gravely injured and sick animals who otherwise would die or live in unbearable pain. The cost of medical care often ranges from $500 to $2000 depending on the severity of the case. Even routine medical care provided for kittens and cats who have been rescued and put up for adoption can range from $100 to $500.

We are a small but highly effective organization within our community. We fill a very important need and it's only through the generosity of supporters like you that we can continue this work.

Here are some sample success stories:

· Jillianwas rescued from a shed where she was trapped. She was starving and emaciated. After an initial period of hospitalization, she gained weight and strength and was spayed. Unfortunately, there were serious complications requiring a second surgery. She's now completely recovered and has been adopted along with her best friend Juliette. (Jillian's medical care cost $1100)

·Pepperwas hit by a car. Her rear leg was crushed and the other foot had fractured toes. By the time Pepper was rescued and in our care, her legs had wounds that were terribly infected. She was anemic and had a high fever. She had been walking around for weeks in this condition and must have been in unbearable pain. Unfortunately her rear leg had to be amputated but fortunately, the other foot healed. When she was first examined by the emergency room veterinarian, euthanasia was strongly recommended, but because Pepper found the strength to drag herself around for two weeks after her injury, we felt compelled to honor her determination to live. Fast forward 6 months and Pepper has regained her health. She has learned not only to manage on 3 legs but is quite happy. She plays and seeks affection and now, at one year old, she is ready for her forever home. (Pepper's medical care cost $1800)

· Olliewas a senior kitty living on the street among a group of cats that were dumped outside when the owner moved away. He could not close his mouth (probably for years) because his top and bottom teeth hit each other. His mouth was horribly infected and what we thought was mucous in his nose was actually pus coming from his infected mouth and out of his nose. Ollie was hospitalized for weeks. We soon realized that Ollie was a semi-feral cat, and though he did allow petting when in his cage at the hospital, once released, he preferred the company of 4 legged creatures over humans. Eventually, a wonderful family stepped up and made room in their home and hearts for Ollie. Take a look at his 'before and 'after photo! (Ollie's medical care cost $2200).

Ollie's story is important because we recently launched a new initiative to get 'Supposedly Unadoptable semi-feral and other reserved or scared cats (like our shy friend Ollie!) into adoptive homes. is that program and we are so passionate about helping these cats, who are often among the least desirable to the adopting public.

Each rescue has their own unique story. Jillian, Pepper and Ollie are just a sample of the animals we help each year. You can view their photos in the photo gallery at the top of this page. Thanks to donors like you, they are alive and well and flourishing!

We hope you agree with us that 'each animal counts.

Please join us in celebrating life and please consider donating. The cost of rescue is staggering and we can't do it without your help!

Your donation allows us to save lives.

With Heartfelt Thanks,

The Give Me Shelter Project Team
