Delhi court summons Ola, Uber for overcharging passengers

App-based cab service providers, including Ola and Uber, were summoned by Delhi court based on allegations of charging excessive fares and running taxis without permit.

This order comes after a complaint was filed by NGO Nyayabhoomi seeking action against firms violating Motor Vehicles Act.

The NGO claimed that taxis don't have electronic digital fare meters, violating another provision.

20 people get trapped in stuck elevator at Gurugram mall

Police were called in after elevator control room team at Sector 53's South Point Mall failed to fix a technical fault which led to twenty people, including six females, getting trapped in a stuck elevator for 90 minutes.

The people were rescued after police broke elevator's backside glass and glass wall with a hammer.

Two women fell unconscious due to lack of oxygen.


Delhi: Metro trains to rise by 45% from March

With its Phase 3 nearing completion, Delhi Metro is set to undergo a massive expansion.

The commuters will see a 45% increase in the number of trains, i.e. from 227 trains at present to 328.

The network will also expand from 218 km to 348 km. DMRC also plans to deploy an additional 3,000 employees to the already existing 9,000.


Showers cause traffic snarls , choke 65 water-logging prone stretches

Monday's downpour led to traffic snarls at 65 stretches identified by traffic cops as most water logging prone.

Traffic crawled at snail's pace at MB Road, South Extension, Aurobindo Marg and RTR Marg. According to traffic police, average speed of traffic reduced to 10km/h for over two hours during evening.

Officials blamed PWD for its laxity in desilting drains that led to water logging.


NGT slams Delhi govt over indiscriminate use of plastic

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) rapped Delhi government for indiscriminate use of plastic, despite the ban imposed on it which came into effect from January 1 this year.

The NGT bench asked for a status report on the matter.

According to new Plastic Waste Management Rules 2016, use of disposable plastic in any form is banned except those that are permitted.


Passenger arrested with gold worth Rs. 76lakh at Delhi airport

Custom officials at Delhi airport arrested 64-year old Indian passenger, who had arrived from Dubai, for trying to smuggle 89 gold pieces weighing 2.6kgs concealed in his luggage.

On physical checking of his luggage, the gold in the form of core-plates and strips, valued at Rs. 76 lakh, was found hidden in items like transformers, motors and meat mincers.
