Kuwait- OIC FMs applaud Palestinian resistance against Israeli aggression
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ISTANBUL, Aug 1 (KUNA) -- Foreign Ministers of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member nations commended the Palestinian people for their perseverance in the face of Israel's onslaught.
The gesture was made amid an "extraordinary" OIC session held in the Turkish city of Istanbul on Tuesday, to examine the latest developments in Jerusalem's sacrosanct Al-Aqsa mosque.
In his speech, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu deplored Israel's violent tendencies, a sentiment he said was shared by the entire Arab and Islamic world.
He underscored that all people have an inalienable right to religious practice, irrespective of faith, saying that the holy Al-Aqsa mosque must be protected at all costs.
Meanwhile, the OIC's Secretary General Yousef Al-Othaimeen noted that the Palestinians' solidarity in Jerusalem represented a historical milestone, rendering Israel's attempts to disrupt the status quo in Islam's third holiest site futile.
Al-Othaimeen applauded various Arab and Islamic nations for their efforts to ensure that the holy Al-Aqsa mosque would open its doors again to throngs of Muslim worshippers.
In a speech of his own, Palestinian Foreign Minister Riad Maliki encouraged Palestinians to rejoice, saying they were successful in their struggle to safeguard the Al-Aqsa mosque.
Maliki added that Israel's wanton aggressions would only raise the ire of Palestinians and bring them closer together.
Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi warned that the conflict could reach mammoth proportions if Israel's destructive actions persist, saying that the eschewal of violence would bring peace to the region.
In his speech, Saudi Foreign Miniser Adel Al-Jubair said that Israel had violated the sanctity of the Al-Aqsa mosque and that his country was quick to respond to make sure that normalcy in the compound is restored.
