Kuwait- 2 held as runaway maids exploited for 'prostitution'


(MENAFN- Arab Times) KUWAIT CITY, July 26: Officers from the Residency Affairs Department arrested a two-man gang for exploiting runaway domestic workers for immoral activities at different flats in Farwaniya area. The two suspects, an Arab man and his Asian accomplice, are said to have supplied domestic workers to clients on wages.

Acting on information, a team of detectives was assigned to verify authenticity of the report before raiding the flats. Guarded by warrant from the Public Prosecution, the officers apprehended 41 Ethiopians. They discovered all suspects had violated residency law with absconding cases registered against them by their respective sponsors. They were referred to concerned authorities for necessary action.

Meanwhile, the officers arrested 28 residency violators from an apartment building in Mahboula area. Apparently, the building serves as shelter for runaway housemaids and visa 20 holders. All those arrested were referred to concerned authorities for further action.

Cams report rejected: Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Traffic Affairs at Ministry of Interior Major General Fahad Al-Shuwea said the reports circulating on social media and other means about the new cameras that have recently been installed on the roads of Kuwait are not accurate, reports Al-Qabas daily.

He clarified that these cameras do not detect the violations of not wearing seat belts or using mobile phones while driving among others.

However, Major General Al-Shuwea indicated that the new cameras are very sophisticated and can be programmed for detecting any kind of violations, adding that an announcement in this regard will be made by the General Department of Public Relations and Security Media of Ministry of Interior.
