'Dunking Devils' acrobatics enthral Doha crowds

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Renowned acrobatic slam dunk basketball team ‘Dunking Devils' enthralled a large number of visitors yesterday with their stunning performance on court at the Summer Entertainment City (SEC).
Families and children who spent their weekend at the City, housed in the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre, witnessed the team's stunts and acrobatics in three sets: 6pm, 7.15pm and 8.30pm.
'We are really happy with the crowd, with our show... the conditions are nice and the venue is also amazing. Families and kids are enjoying all the events, so we are very happy to be here, Dunking Devils team captain Marko Knafelc said.
'We were really well accepted by the crowd here, they were energetic, he added. 'It was nice to see people here enjoying the show, and when we see that, we enjoy our show more.
The event forms part of Qatar Summer Festival 2017, which started on June 22 and continues until September 5, organised by Qatar Tourism Authority and QSports.
The organisers described the ‘Dunking Devils' event as the 'best dunking show ever in Doha, and will continue today in three sets from 6pm.
'The response (of the crowd) to the ‘Dunking Devils' has been nothing short of fantastic. The athletes have engaged with the kids in a very big way, even letting them become part of the act, SEC marketing head Michael Stellwag told Gulf Times. 'The team from Slovenia will give us three more rim-rattling shows today.
'We are excited to welcome Georgian dancers next week, a group named Kazbegi, and a team of children's acrobats, he said.
The Dunking Devils are an acrobatic basketball team that has been entertaining and thrilling audiences for more than 10 years, performing at more than 900 shows in 35 countries across five continents.
Meanwhile, a free throw shooting contest tomorrow is open to any member of the public who wants a chance to win QR3,000, according to the organisers. Registration can be done online at SummerEntCity.com or directly at the venue.
Festival visitors will also have the opportunity to win prizes in a photography contest, such as gym membership for one week at Shangri-La Doha. They just have to capture a photograph of the ‘Dunking Devils' show and upload it in the comments section of a post on SEC's Facebook page. The contest ends today.
The organisers recently named Mohamed Bilal as the winner of their ‘Name the NBA Legend' contest on Facebook, held on July 26 and 27, for answering Dennis Rodman.
Basketball enthusiasts also had the opportunity to watch their favourite teams compete in 3-on-3 basketball matches at SEC.
