Azerbaijan, Peru identify promising spheres of cooperation

Azerbaijan and Peru have identified promising areas of cooperation, including energy, agriculture, mutual investment, tourism and the humanitarian spheres.

The issues of cooperation in these areas were discussed by Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov and the temporary charge d'affaires of Peru in Azerbaijan,Luis Chang Boldrini.

The parties also noted the need to expand the legal framework and conduct political consultations at the level of extra-political departments of the countries.

Mammadyarov congratulated the diplomat on his appointment, noted that his activities will contribute to the development of thebilateral cooperation.

To develop and strengthen the bilateral relations, Peru opened an embassy in Azerbaijan, which started its activities in June.

The Embassy of Azerbaijan to the United Mexican States was accredited to the Republic of Peru. In June 2015, diplomatic mission of Azerbaijan was opened in Peru.

The diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Peru were established in 1996.

In 2013, the Peruvian Congress adopted a resolution condemning the Khojaly genocide and Armenia's aggression against Azerbaijan.
