Azerbaijan, Japan can get closer

Azerbaijan and Japan may open regular flights, asdelegations of the two countries sat down at the negotiating table.

Baku hosted thenegotiations between thedelegations of the aviation authorities of Azerbaijan and Japan on July 28.

During the negotiations, which were held for the first time between the two countries' civil aviation administrations, the sides discussed the issues of opening regular flights.

The parties agreed to grant the designated airlines the right to carry out direct passenger and cargo flights, as well as to conclude agreements on the joint use of codes.

Representatives of the Azerbaijani and Japanese airlines also took part at the meeting held in a friendly atmosphere,according to Azerbaijan's State Civil Aviation Administration.

Azerbaijan, which works hard to develop its tourism sector, now targets on attracting Japanese tourists.

Earlier, Azerbaijan Tourism Association Chairman Nahid Bagirov said that Japanese is interested in visiting the Caucasus region. In this regard representatives of the major Japan tourism association with more than 10,000 members visited Baku last year.
