U.S. Embassy Hosts Youth Basketball Clinics with Four Sports Envoys

The U.S. Embassy, in partnership with the National Basketball Association (NBA), the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA), and the Ethiopian Basketball Federation, is hosting a two-day basketball clinic for Ethiopian youths from July 29-30, 2017 at the Ras-Hailu Gym in Addis Ababa. Four basketball stars will participate in the two-day clinic and also serve on a panel to discuss 'Sports in America: Basketball. The participating sports envoys are:

Rushia Brown, former WNBA player for Cleveland Rockets Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, guard for the Brooklyn Nets CJ McCollum, guard for the Portland Trailblazers Dikembe Mutombo, former NBA player with Nuggets, Hawks, 76ers & Rockets

The U.S. Embassy believes that sports diplomacy helps transcend cultural differences and bring people together. Participation in sports teaches leadership, teamwork, and communication skills that help young people succeed in all areas of their lives. The Sports Envoys Program takes current and former professional athletes and coaches overseas to lead youth clinics and team building activities, as well as share lessons learned on and off the playing field about the importance of education, community engagement, and respect for diversity.
