(MENAFN) ANGELA Merkel must introduce an immediate legal cap on migration to ensure that there can never be a repeat of the 2015 refugee chaos, an influential German MEP has said today.
In an outspoken intervention Manfred Weber, the chairman of the influential European People"s Party (EPP) grouping, warned there was "no room for wobbling" on the issue of cutting migration.
He characterised Mrs Merkel"s decision to allow more than a million migrants and refugees into Germany as a mistake and said Europe "must secure its borders" so such a scenario never unfolds again.
In an interview with a German newspaper Mr Weber, who is known for his controversial views, also called on EU leaders to end accession talks with Turkey describing the idea of the country joining the bloc as an "illusion".
