CAIRO, 26th July, 2017 (WAM) -- The "Legal Support for Victims of Terrorist Operations Conference," organised by the Arab Federation for Human Rights and the Egyptian Organisation for Human Rights, today announced, in Cairo, the formation of a legal committee of several lawyers, to file lawsuits demanding compensation for the families of victims of terrorist operations from the countries that support terrorism.

The Conference has formed a team of Egyptian, Arab and international lawyers, to undertake legal procedures in international courts to try to convict the perpetrators of terrorist crimes, and place the responsibility on countries that support terrorism to compensate their victims, and bring the officials who support and facilitate the work of terrorist organisations to justice. The team will also document terrorist crimes and responsible organisations and countries, one of which is Qatar.

The conference was attended by people with an interest in human rights issues, international public law professors, legal experts, and representatives of institutions, and associations and organisations of civil society. Participants agreed that countries supporting terrorism, including Qatar, should be held accountable and their membership should be withdrawn from the Counter-Terrorism Committee in the International Security Council.

The Security Council demanded a decision on a definition of 'victims of terrorism' and getting countries to approve it. They also called for imposing measures according to Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter on Qatar on the model of Decision Number 1992 (1998), which was adopted by the Security Council at its 3920th session on 27th August, 1998. They further sought a commitment from countries supporting terrorism to pay compensation to victims of terrorism based on the model of the victims of Lockerbie.
