Pakistan- South Waziristan students protest over not getting political scholarships

(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) TANK, 26 July: The students of South Waziristan Agency on Tuesday staged protest in Tank against not receiving political scholarships and ending of quota system for admissions in educational institutions.

Students from Gomal University and colleges of Dera Ismail Khan, Tank and South Waziristan attended the rally which was organised at political compound in Tank. The protesting students chanted slogans against the FATA Secretariat and political administration.

The students said in this era of inflation, the political administration is making them to run from pillar to post to get only Rs2,000 or Rs3,000 which is such a low amount that could not fulfil their needs of education finances. They said they should be given political scholarships to meet their education expenses.

Salman Ayaz, a participant of the protest, told TNN that they need bigger amount of scholarships to support their education.

'We have not received political scholarships for the last two years which is only Rs3,000. We submit Rs30,000 admission fee for each semester while exam fees and other expenses are also very high. The administration should increase the scholarship amount to help the students complete their studies,' he said.

The political agent of South Waziristan said the FATA Secretariat has not released the scholarship amount to them due to which the administration is unable to pay scholarships to students.
