We are a Title 1 school. Our class is a social and emotional learning class for students in grades 3-5. Our classroom focuses on behavior management and teaching skills using the Boys Town model. As we work on learning appropriate behavior and social skills, students will then be mainstreamed into appropriate general education classes.
These students are in need of significant emotional, behavioral and academic support. Before we can properly address all of their academic needs it is necessary to first teach them the social, emotional and behavioral skills to be successful.
My Project
My project is for my low income students who are in need of additional supplies to help develop needed skills for academic success.
These supplies will be used in my social and emotional learning class for about 15 students in grades 3-5 to better develop life skills, emotional regulation, and sensory needs.
Supplies are needed for my classroom to target specific goals for social skills in order to reach IEP goals.
The requested board games such as "Scrabble" and "Trouble" will be used to target opportunities for team work and work through behavioral problems in a structured setting. Books including "Rude Cakes" and "The Juice Box Bully: Empowering Kids to Stand Up for Others" will be used for group discussions in problem solving. Sensory supplies such as fidget toys and hand putty will be used to help with sensory needs and to prevent behavioral issues. Developing these social and emotional skills with these listed supplies will help strengthen academic skills and allow students to mainstream into a general education classroom.
