Oman- Chances of rain in parts of the sultanate: Met department


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- There are chances of isolated light to moderate rain, thundershowers and cloud development over Al Hajar Mountains and in some wilayats of Al Wusta and Dhofar governorates on Wednesday, according to the Directorate General of Meteorology (DGM).

The maximum temperature in Muscat will remain at 46°C.

On Tuesday, the wilayats of Ibri, Nizwa, Saham and Suwaiq received light to moderate rain.

In its forecast for Wednesday, DGM stated, 'Along the coastal areas of Sea of Oman, winds will be northeasterly light to moderate during day becoming variable light at night. Along the coastal areas of Arabian Sea, winds will be southwesterly moderate to fresh and over the rest of the sultanate they will be southerly to southwesterly light to moderate.

'There will be cloudy skies along the coastal areas of Dhofar governorate and adjoining mountains with intermittent drizzle. Chances of cloud advection over most parts of the sultanate and cloud development with isolated rain over parts of Al Hajar Mountains, Al Wusta and over the desert areas of Dhofar during the afternoon. There are also chances of dust rising winds over the desert area of Dhofar.'

DGM stated that the sea state is expected to be rough along the coastal areas of Arabian Sea with a maximum wave height of 4m and slight along rest of Oman's coast with a maximum wave height of 1m.

Meanwhile, a number of governorates witnessed light to heavy rainfall on Sunday. The Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources stated that the highest rainfall was recorded in the wilayat of Ibra in the Governorate of North Sharqiyah at 38mm.

The wilayat of Nizwa in the Governorate of Dakhliyah recorded 26mm rain, the wilayat of Ibri in the Governorate of Dhahirah registered 8mm while the wilayat of Sohar in North Batinah recorded 7mm rainfall.

The rainfall resulted in flow of water in several wadis including Wadi al Ain, Wadi al Masla and Wadi Kalba in Nizwa; Wadi Sidaq in Rustaq; Wadi al Mailah and Wadi Qafifa in the wilayat of Ibra and Wadi al Ajma, Al Sam, Al Rakka, Hayal, Wadi al Hajer and Al Mays in the wilayat of Ibri.
