Poet Lynndel Schuurman Empowers Sex Abuse Victims to Reclaim Themselves

(MENAFNEditorial) A true-to-life poetry book that encourages the victims to take their power back According to, on average, there are 321,500 victims (age 12 or older) of rape and sexual assault each year in the United States. The worst veracity is most of these victims live in infamy and silence through fear, doubt, or intimidation.

Author/poet bares her heart when she shares the part of her life that she had once opted to hide. Without verbal expressions to let out of her burden and anguish, she eventually found a way to raise her voice and muster her inner strength.

Her book, aims to educate people of the pain, emotions and trauma that someone who is sexually abused goes through from her perspective. Her poems narrate her feelings of the lost innocence and misery. Readers can feel her pain, struggles and hopelessness. After hiding in a cell for quite some time, Lynndel eventually stood up and realized that she's tired of hiding in shame, blame and disgust. She says, 'By sharing all of this, it released a tremendous weight from me and I hope it will encourage others to speak up. Sharing helps us heal and know that we are not alone.

'Just because something unspeakable happened to me does not make me a bad, dirty, worthless person, she quotes. Lynndel believes and experiences the healing and stillness by understanding our beauty and radiance from within.

'I wanted everyone who was struggling to know that it does get so much better, and yes healing is absolutely possible, she explains. Reclaiming Myself does not intend to be a medical book or advice. Lynndel honestly opens hersoul and enlightens the readers (especially the victims) that there is a positive outlet for them to use. For her, poetry was one of the first avenuesof release. Her powerful journey of self-discovery, empowerment and hope instills the fact that reclaiming oneself is truly achievable.

'At the core of your heart, you are perfect and pure. No one and nothing can alter that.
