(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) KABUL (Pajhwok): The UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has condemned Monday€™s suicide attack in Kabul, amid intensifying nationwide violence impacting civilians.
The car bombing came amid commemorations of the July 2016 Dehmazang Square attack, which killed and injured hundreds of demonstrators who were exercising their right to freedom of assembly.
On Monday morning, a suicide attacker detonated a car packed with explosives against a bus carrying civil servants in Kabul€™s Ghulayee Dawa Khan area, killing at least 24 passengers and bystanders, and injuring more than 40. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.
Pernille Kardel, the UN secretary-general€™s deputy special representative and acting head of UNAMA, said in a statement: €œI am personally outraged by all attacks against civilians.€
The diplomat added: €œThe detonation of another large suicide device in a busy, civilian-populated area is egregious, cowardly and bereft of humanity.€
UNAMA reminded militants that employment as a civil servant tasked with providing public services to citizens was a civilian function. Attacks deliberately targeting civilians and the intentional killing of civilians were war crimes, it said.
While commending the Enlightenment Movement for choosing to address their grievances through dialogue, Kardel urged all parties to seek similarly peaceful ways to resolve their differences. She also welcomed the government€™s initiative to hear the concerns of all Afghans.
