Police Sergeant Sarath Premachandra, who was killed during the Jaffna shooting incident on Saturday, has been promoted posthumously to the rank of a Sub Inspector (SI).
High Court judge N. Illancheliyan was shot at by gunmen in Nallur, Jaffna while he was in his vehicle.
The judge was unhurt but Premachandra, who was giving security to the judge was injured.
The High Court judge is part of a trial-at-bar hearing the case on the rape and murder of the school girl. (Colombo Gazette)
