(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- Oman's budget airline SalamAir, which had started its international operations with flights to Dubai in February, will switch from the current Dubai World Central (DWC) to Dubai International Airport (DXB) fromOctober 29.
Also, the airline will add two more flights between Salalah and Sohar fromJuly 27, making it six times a week service. The airline will also appoint a new CEO soon.
During the Dubai launch, the airline had stated that fromMarch 26, the flight will move to DXB. While in April, Khalid al Yahmadi, chairman of SalamAir, said that the airline officials met with the CEO of Dubai Airports and both were working to find a solution. 'Due to high congestion at DXB, we're working on finding the right time for both [SalamAir-Dubai Airports] of us. We hope that we will soon be able to solve the problem,' he had said.
The airline has started taking bookings for daily DXB flights fromOctober 29. The online reservation site also shows that SalamAir will discontinue its current thrice weekly flights to DWC when it starts DXB operations. The move is expected to increase demand for its flights to Dubai.
In another development, the airline earlier this month had announced plans to replace its CEO. 'The board of directors of SalamAir has made a decision a few weeks ago to change the company's CEO. The new appointment will be announced in a few weeks,' said Yahmadi.
'The post is currently and temporarily occupied by the advisor and an aviation expert on the board of directors. Also, the next CEO will be a GCC national.'
On the operation of six flights a week to Sohar, the airline stated, 'We are adding two additional flights between Sohar and Salalah on Saturdays and Thursdays starting July 27.'
Yahmadi thanked Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA) for giving permission to add extra flights to Sohar from its initial three flights a week quota.
Mohammed bin Nasser al Zaabi, CEO of PACA, said that the growth prospects for Sohar were encouraging. 'Increase in flights to and from Sohar is a good indicator of growth demand and increased passenger traffic. We look forward to more,' he had said.
