Erdogan arrives today in bid to ease Gulf crisis

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who is on a Gulf tour as part of a diplomatic mission aimed at healing an Arab rift , will visit Doha today.
Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani will discuss with his brother the President of Turkey bilateral relations and means of enhancing and advancing them, in addition to the developments in the Gulf crisis.
Erdogan yesterday travelled to Saudi Arabia and had talks in Jeddah with King Salman bin Abdulazizi who hailed the Turkish leader's 'efforts in the fight against terrorism and its financing. He also met Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman before leaving for Kuwait for the second leg of his tour.
In Kuwait, Erdogan held a session of official talks with the Emir of Kuwait H H Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah.

The official news agency, Kuna, said that they reviewed relations between the two countries and means of enhancing them in all fields, in addition to issues of common concern and the latest developments in the region.

Erdogan is being accompanied by a high-profile delegation that includes Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekci, Energy and Natural Resources Minister Berat Albayrak, Defense Minister Nurettin Canikli, Chief of Staff Gen. Hulusi Akar, and National Intelligence Organization (MIT) head Hakan Fidan.
The Turkish President expressed regret over recent developments in the Gulf region, reaffirming the need to 'resolve differences in the region through peaceful means and through dialogue.
'No-one has any interest in prolonging this crisis any more, Erdogan told a press conference before leaving Istanbul airport on the two-day trip to Gulf. Erdogan said the parties benefiting from the Gulf crisis are those who seek to 'fire up tensions between brothers in the region.
He renewed his country's support for the mediation efforts of the Emir of Kuwait H H Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah along with the efforts being exerted by a number of countries to contain the Gulf crisis. 'Qatar has acted since the beginning of the Gulf crisis soundly and with great perseverance and has made great efforts to resolve the dispute through dialogue, Erdogan stressed, describing the Emir's speech delivered two days ago as a right step towards a solution.
'From the first moments of the Qatar crisis, we have been on the side of peace, stability, solidarity and dialogue, said Erdogan.
On the developments in the occupied city of Jerusalem, Erdogan stressed that Al Aqsa Mosque is the honour of 1.7 billion Muslims and not only the Palestinians, calling on the Israeli occupation to act in accordance with the law and human values and avoid any further steps that would escalate tension in the region.
In this context, the Turkish President highlighted the intensive efforts of his country to end the tension in Occupied Jerusalem and restore calm to the Al Aqsa Mosque.
