Iran rejects release of US detainees

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) TEHRAN, July 22 (KUNA) -- Tehran rejected on Saturday the release of US citizens arrested in Iran accused of national security violations and interference in Iran's internal affairs.
In a statement, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qasemi said that the White House officials' claims are unacceptable and clear example of interference in Iran's internal affairs.
Qasemi made the remarks in reaction to the White House statement on Friday in which the country demanded freedom of a US citizen who has been charged of spying in Iran.
Iran's Judiciary apparatus, courts and judges similar to other democratic systems are independent and act based on domestic rules and in the framework of separation of power branches, the official added.
He said that Iran's judicial apparatus observes any act against the country's national security.
The US officials' and institutions' threatening statements will not effect Iran's judicial system commitment to examine and punish those who violated the country's rules and acted against the national security, Qasemi added.
The spokesman added those who have been listed in the White House statement have been impeached for charges and their case will be examined in the competent courts.
The spokesman referred to Robert Levinson's case and said Iran has told the American officials for several times that Levinson has left Iran and Tehran has no new information about him. (end) mw.mb
