PM Nawaz will be accountable if his children failed to justify money trail: SC

(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) ISLAMABAD, 20 July: A special bench of the Supreme Court on Thursday remarked that if the Prime Minister's children failed to provide money trail for the London flats, Nawaz Sharif would be held accountable since he holds a public office.
A three member implementation bench of the apex court, headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal and comprising of Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed and Justice Ijazul Ahsan, heard the arguments of counsel for PM's children Salman Akram Raja.
The bench has been holding the proceedings since Monday following the submission of the joint investigation team's (JIT) report.
During the hearing, the judges expressed their displeasure over the leakage of fresh documents regarding Sharif's money trail to media and media trial being conducted outside the court.
Justice Ejaz Afzal remarked that documents were provided to media before submitting to the court. You have promised to submit documents to the court tomorrow, the judge remarked. All the documents submitted to the court have already been discussed in the media, said Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed. He also asked the Salman Akram Raja that you should give your arguments on media as well.
The bench questioned the authenticity of the documents submitted in court by the Raja, pointing to the deed for the four London flats.
Raja said that it was an allegation that Maryam is an owner of the flats. To that, Justice Ijaz said that it was a reality according to the JIT report.
'According to the JIT report, the font used in the deed for the London flats was not commercially available until 2007 while the trust deed was prepared in 2006 — how were fake documents submitted in the court?' asked the irked judges.
The bench inquired the Additional Attorney General (AAG) Rana Waqar, who was also present in court, about the consequences of submitting fake documents in the apex court. 'A case would be registered and the punishment could be imprisonment up to seven years,' replied AAG Waqar.
The court adjourned hearing of the Panama Papers case till tomorrow with remarks that 'public office holder' will be held accountable if his children were failed to justify the money trail for London flats.
