In what was termed by an event for mango lovers to remember forever, Sohni Dharti, a Pakistani forum of Al Khor Community, organised the seventh ‘Mango Festival', which saw the participation of over 5000 people.
More than 18 tonnes of Pakistani mangoes were sold in the festival on July 14 from 3pm to 10pm. It turned into a family day with a couple of restaurants offering traditional Pakistani dishes.
In a show of support and solidarity with Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and the people of Qatar, Sohni Dharti installed a signature board bearing the ‘Tamim Al Majd' mural at Mango Festival at Sports Hall area. Sohni Dharti Mango Festival visitors participated to express their support to Emir and the nation.
The festival was organised by Sohni Dharti in cooperation with Mian Akif Riaz, an importer of Pakistani seasonal fruits and vegetables to Qatar.
'The weeks towards mid-July bring the best quality mangoes, including Chaunsa, Anwar Ritol, Langra and Dusaire, said Riaz.
He arranged most liked varieties for the event to serve such a huge community of visitors.
Prominent community personalities representing Dukhan, Umm Saeed, Al Wakrah, and Doha participated in the event. Adeel Akbar, from Pakistan Arts Society, appreciated the efforts of Sohni Dharti Executive Committee. Furqan Paracha, community leader of Umm Saeed, praised the efforts of Sohni Dharti, Al Khor towards promoting Pakistani agro produce every year and assured the organisers all help and support from Pakistani community.
Sohni Dharti Chairman Rana Anwar Ali thanked the Qatar Government and the Al Khor Community management for their cooperation and support to the annual event.
