(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) KABUL (Pajhwok): Kazakhstan would support Afghanistan in training its border forces under an agreement reached with Afghan officials, a statement from the National Security Advisor€™s office said on Wednesday.
The statement said National Security Advisor Mohammad Hanif Atmar, who has been on an official visit to Kazakhstan, on Wednesday called on the Kazakh border police chief.
The Kazakh border police chief stressed the need for bilateral cooperation in preventing crimes on the shared borders, including infiltration of terrorists.
He said the Afghan border police should be fully equipped to prevent terrorists and drug smugglers from entering central Asian countries.
He promised Kazakhstan would unfold a special program regarding training and supporting the Afghan border forces.
Atmar said Kazakhstan had a considerable experience in protecting border region and border management and the country should share its experience with Afghanistan.
He said the Afghan border forces needed training and equipment in their fight against terrorists, drug smugglers and other criminals.
He said training and equipping would enable the Afghan forces to prevent terrorists from sneaking into central Asian countries.
Atmar said regional countries, particularly members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization should fight the common enemy with joint measures.
The two sides agreed to creation of big and small joint working groups to keep continued cooperation between the two countries about training to border forces.
The working groups would be mandated to investigate border services between the two countries and prepare an agreement and a cooperation framework.
The Kazakh side promised training to Afghan border police officers and helping Afghanistan to establish check points and other facilities.
The Kazakh border police commander invited the Afghan official to visit the training academy in Almaty city, where 45 Afghan cadets are currently receiving training.
