Qatar to open new LNG markets with free terminals

(MENAFN) Qatar Gas Transport Co. and Norwegian shipping business LNG have embarked on a mutual project to open new markets for Qatar to sell its LNG via free import terminals.

Accordingly, Hoegh LNG and Qatar Gas Transport Co., which operates a huge fleet of LNG tankers are evaluating nation in which they could set up a floating terminal.

Moreover, the tiny Gulf state lifted a self-imposed moratorium on new production in April and this month caught rivals off guard by embarking on plans to boost LNG output by 30 percent to 100mn tons.

In addition, the terminals, which are known as floating storage and regasification units, are useful for developing nations aiming access to cheap gas on tight budgets.
