UAE Consulate in New York organises neighbourhood football event

NEW YORK, 19th July, 2017 (WAM) -- The UAE General Consulate in New York, with support from the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, has organised a community neighbourhood football event in a public school court in the Bronx area of the city.

The event was organised in co-operation with New York City Football Club in the Bronx and the City in the Community Association, with the participation of many children and youth.

Majid Al Suwaidi, UAE Consul-General in New York, stated that neighbourhood football is important in the UAE, not just for its positive effects on communities.

John Patricof, President of the New York City Football Club, said that this event is part of the mission to widen the free opportunities to practicing football in New York, and to bring together community members through the sport.

Ahmed Al Qubaisi, Marketing and Communication Director of Abu Dhabi Sports Council, said that the council dedicates its efforts to supporting sports development youth programmes, which benefit communities, empower the youth and promote a healthy lifestyle.

During the event, he also announced that a garden was established in the school in co-operation with the "Grow NYC" programme for the garden establishment. The event included live music and cultural activities with an Emirati artist specialised in Henna art.

The "Neighborhood Football" event in the Bronx is part of the 'Year of Giving' initiative under the directive of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. It is aimed at strengthening the culture of giving and promoting a spirit of volunteer work.
